Johnston Memorial Hospital

Our task was to promote sustainable design in development of the landscape master plan for this new hospital campus. HPI helped site the buildings, circulation, and designed a bioswale system for treating stormwater. In the end, the sustainable design approach saved money in upfront construction cost.

Another goal of the sustainable approach was to create a relationship between the user of the site and the stormwater treatment by making it visibly interactive. By integrating the bioswales in active pedestrian zones they also have the opportunity to become educational areas.
