Dugas Community Park-Phase 1
History and natural beauty are characteristics that are not created, but preserved, protected and enhanced through design. Dugas Community Park has both of these characteristics, and it was important to the community and steering committee that these qualities be integral to the design and program of the phase one improvements. The program for phase one included a pavilion where both small and large groups of up to 100 people could gather for picnics or formal events; a restroom and food preparation area to serve the park, pavilion and amphitheater; a large nature play playground for toddlers up to teens; and an amphitheater that intimately accommodates up to 1700 people. Each program element fits aesthetically within the site in order to not interfere with the scenic beauty and vistas of the site, while also contextually preserving and enhancing the site’s rich history.
