Addressing the unique challenges of a rooftop environment while creating a beautiful living environment that embodied the client’s aesthetic and programmatic vision for their home, Hawkins Partners, Inc. was responsible for all aspects of design from schematic through construction administration. 

 

The main terrace is approximately 1,500 SF and contains a variety of outdoor rooms including a formal dining area, seating areas for large and small groups, artificial turf lawn area, multiple raised planters and two custom overhead structures.

 

A secondary terrace adjacent to the den and kitchen is just under 1,000 SF and offers a more casual space for outdoor gathering, dining and cooking, and features a lush ornamental kitchen garden.

 

Off the master bedroom, a small private terrace includes a custom shade structure, ipe decking, water feature and raised planters with framework for twining vines.

 

All terraces contain extensive planting areas created through the design and fabrication of metal planters at varying heights.  Automatic irrigation and moisture sensors ensures that plants remain hydrated.  Custom soil mixes were developed in some areas to allow for non-traditional greenroof plants to thrive.
