The Driftwood Conceptual Framework and Master Plan Study

The Driftwood Conceptual Framework and Master Plan Study reimagined a 300-acre urbanized floodplain near Downtown Nashville, dominated by impervious surfaces and industrial uses, into a model for sustainable redevelopment. Led by the landscape architect, with support from the civil engineer, the plan integrated urban density with sustainable green infrastructure that restored the riparian landscape along the Cumberland River to enhance both ecological and community resilience. At the heart of the plan were 60 acres of open space, designed to restore critical habitats, manage floodwater through a district-wide stormwater strategy, and provide public access to the Cumberland River. A proposed 1.5-mile greenway network linked the site to existing greenways, creating multimodal connections and recreational opportunities while revitalizing the urban edge. The Driftwood Plan highlighted the landscape architect’s expertise in balancing urban redevelopment, ecological restoration, sustainable infrastructure, and meaningful social impact to create a vibrant, resilient community.
