Geodis Park Is Headed to the 2028 Olympics
Nashville is going Olympic. Geodis Park has been selected as one of the venues for the LA28 Olympic Football Tournaments, part of the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles. Hawkins Partners is proud to have played a role in bringing this stadium to life, and even prouder to see it take center stage on a global scale.
A World Stage for Nashville
Geodis Park joins six other venues across the country hosting Olympic soccer, with the tournament's final matches set for the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. On the Olympic stage, the stadium will be known as Nashville Stadium, following the same naming convention as the other host venues. LA28 officials framed the expanded venue list as a way to bring the Games closer to fans nationwide, noting that bringing matches to stadiums across the country lets more fans experience the Olympic spirit firsthand. The selection is a significant moment for Nashville's sports scene, placing the city alongside New York, Columbus, St. Louis, San Jose, and San Diego as a host market for one of the world's largest sporting events.
Designing a Stadium for the World's Largest Soccer Fanbase
Geodis Park sits on Nashville's historic fairgrounds, directly adjacent to the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood, on a site that formerly hosted the Nashville Fairgrounds before that use relocated to an improved expo building on the same property. Serving as the home stadium for Nashville SC, the venue is recognized as the largest dedicated soccer stadium in North America.
Hawkins Partners collaborated with Populous Architects and a wide range of design disciplines to bring the project to life, leading site design and related architectural site elements. That work included developing a vivid plant palette, one distinct enough to give the stadium its own identity while still complementing the scale and energy of a major sporting venue.
Recognized Before the World Was Watching
Completed in 2022, Geodis Park earned a 2023 Excellence in Development award from ULI Nashville well before the Olympic announcement, recognition of the design and planning work that went into the stadium and its surrounding site. Now, with the eyes of the world set to turn toward Nashville in 2028, that same site design will help host matches on one of the biggest stages in global sports.
Hawkins Partners is ready. We can't wait to see what this venue, and this city, bring to the world stage.
